  • Attuned Countertransference:
Integrating Wisdom from IFS and Psychodynamic Approaches

    Online May 3, 2024 12:30-4:30
4 CEUs for NY SW pending approval
    More detail coming soon
The perspectives of both the Internal Family Systems model and psychodynamic approaches will be compared and contrasted to show how countertransference can be utilized by therapists of both modalities. We will create a space to enhance awareness of countertransference, both known and unknown. Participants learn ways to work with their own system as well as how to refine attunement to the client’s unconscious experience. In order to facilitate integration, this workshop is structured to be both experiential and didactic. Case examples and group discussion will also be used to support application of insights into the therapeutic relationship.
Recent workshops to be offered again soon:

Improving Resilience Through Accessing the Body-Self
    NYC
In order to assist clients in healing and developing an expanded sense of self, therapists are increasingly integrating the body and somatic experience into treatment. Often, however, therapists have neither a sufficient theoretical map nor the techniques needed to do so. Drawing on both Eastern and Western wisdom, participants will be given exercises to use with clients that will assist in accessing the body's wisdom to help in the healing process. When a client can develop a relationship with his/her body that is resourceful, he/she builds the capacity for increased affect tolerance, improved emotional regulation and resilience. The workshop will be both didactic and experiential.

Drawing on both Eastern and Western wisdom, participants will learn and practice the different breathing techniques that help to access the body's wisdom in the healing process. Common misconceptions about breath work will be addressed as well as modifications for specific conditions. The workshop will be both didactic and experiential.

  • Mindful Eating for the New Year
    Self-compassion, Gentle Yoga, and Mindfulness
    Breathing Room Center Blairstown, NJ
With the new year often comes new resolutions for making positive lifestyle changes. One mistake we often make, however, is to focus only on behaviors and external results, and neglect focusing on the internal changes required to make them. Why not use this time as an opportunity to focus on the inner and outer changes that are needed simultaneously? Improving eating habits involves not only what you eat, but how you eat. Despite their simplicity, mindful eating and mindfulness practices in general are often challenging to apply, and skillful practice is often needed. This workshop will involve guided experiences of mindful eating, group discussion, gentle movement for every body, sitting meditation, and relaxation.

    Cultivating Self-attunement, Loving-kindness, and Ease
1:30-4:30pm at Breathing Room, Blairstown NJ
Along with festive gatherings, the holidays often bring with them an increased focus on food. Why not use these eating experiences to practice mindfulness, decrease unwanted eating habits, and increase self-care? Sounds easy enough, but these practices can be more challenging in the busyness of the season and skillful practice is often needed. This workshop will involve guided experiences of mindful eating, group discussion, gentle movement for every body, sitting meditation, and relaxation.

    Learn and practice:
    • Mindfulness practices that you can easily integrate into your day
    • Techniques to overcome mindless eating
    • Self-acceptance
    • Ways to reduce stress

This 2 3/4-hour workshop will blend specific yoga and breathing practices for detoxifying the body, breathing practices, and meditation. Much of the yoga practiced in this workshop will be guided to encourage a meditative and internal focus, and some poses will be held for longer periods so that their detoxifying benefits can be optimized.

  • Mind-Body Techniques for Clinical Practice Part III
    Seven Levels of Selfhood
This three-hour workshop will offer techniques to sense and integrate the physical body, as well as the subtle body, into treatment. Drawing on both Eastern and Western wisdom, and proposing that the core of the body itself is an energetic one, participants will explore psychological development through the chakra system and learn how this awareness can assist clients in the healing process. Specific exercises will be learned and practiced that will help the practitioner to access the felt-sense of the chakras, which can then be used with clients. The workshop will be both didactic and experiential, allowing participants a unique perspective on human experience.

Part I and II are not required to participate in this workshop.
