New Years Resolutions and the Power of Intention
It’s that time of year when we think about what it is we truly desire for the coming year. When we engage our heartfelt desires into action, we step into our own power as creative beings--power that comes from a Divine source.
In the past couple of years there has been growing attention on this creative power. With the success of books such as The Secret, many people have become interested to the idea of conscious creation and "The Law of Attraction." This “law” says that our thoughts create an invisible but powerful magnetic field (that's the “vibe” we put out) all around us that draws to us the content of our conscious, as well as unconscious, thoughts. Though a controversial idea for many people, most people agree that the power of intention makes a difference in many areas of our lives--especially with how we feel, and how we relate to ourselves and to other people.
However, for me, there is a primary element that is overlooked in The Secret and other related books. That is, with the abundance of the universe, we are not only given the opportunity to ask for what we want, but also have an opportunity to choose what we would most like to offer. Conscious creation is about tapping into our dearest desires for what we want to receive, as well as our desires for what we want to give. The way of yoga is about receiving as well as giving. It's wonderful to receive a heart-felt gift from a friend or loved one, but isn't it also a joyful experience when you've given something that you know was just perfect?
In Anusara Yoga, we look for the balance in all things. We aim to cultivate the place of the midline between two opposite experiences such as being and doing, giving and receiving, effort and surrender. This “midline” of experience is where we get to experience the beauty of our own heart, and can fully feel the vast intelligence that lies within us.
When we align our body and infuse it with our desires and intentions, we amp-up our creative capacity--because it's not just about what you think, it's also about what you feel. In this way, yoga is a powerful tool to rev-up our vibration, more in line with what we want to give and receive.
Beyond that, it is liberating to remember that one of the promises of yoga is that whatever it is we truly desire is already embedded in the fabric of our heart--that whatever it is we seek, is already inside.
We anchor our yoga practice in the deep knowing that we don't have to keep striving so much outside of ourselves, but that it's already within.
